Press Release Body = Lyrical Insight A Pulitzer Prize nominee\'s poetry breathes life into the art form - literally, spiritually, and most melodically.
It is the 10th anniversary of National Poetry Month, the celebration of which begs the question: Is poetry relevant; or worse...is it dead?
Hardly. Indeed, there is one living whose poetry uplifts, informs, and harmonizes language with music. In Optics: The Mystical Poet\'s Guide to the Science of Inner Sight, Vincent Carver Gilliam, Ph.D. writes not only for the ear, but for the mind and the eye.
Critically acclaimed and award-winning* but written for those who wonder at being alive, Optics transcends religion, drawing its influence from borderless spirituality. In fact, Gilliam\'s poetry has been compared to that of the enduring Persian poet, Rumi.
Tapping into poetry\'s oral wellspring, Gilliam has recited a selection of his works, recorded on a CD which accompanies the deluxe edition of Optics. The aural dimension renders the poems melodious, especially when repeated, and transforms language into something mystical and alive.
Optics is introduced by the late, well known author James Baldwin, who wrote _Go Tell It on the Mountain_. Since Gilliam was a good friend of Baldwin, in remembrance of that friendship, one of Baldwin \'s letters to him commenting on his poetry serves as a preface to this book of lyrical poetry.
Optics is not only proof that poetry is alive and relevant, it is a luminous haven in modern times of upheaval for those who seek peace, beauty, and meaning in life. *Award-winning finalist, Poetry, Best Books 2006 Book Awards
\" Optics is an insightful collection of lyrical and mystical poetry. Religious and spiritual themes intertwine with the refreshing wonder of simply being alive. An emotional and spiritually evocative anthology.\" - Midwest Book Review
\"The product of Gilliam\'s life\'s work and exploration of spiritual traditions, the poems reflect his mystical experiences combined with his Ph.D. studies in Humanities and Religious Studies and are meant to inspire, enlighten and entertain, intellectually and above all spiritually.\" - ForeWord Magazine
